Convert As400 Spool Files Pdf Download
Is this possible? Is it really possible to get a PDF from spool file? Nothing seems to work.:-( I was trying to convert PDF in iSeries Navigator.
Convert Spool File to PDF April 20th, 2004, 04:23 PM. Go to this page CVT2PDF and download this tool it is a great add-on to any AS/400. My organization is using this tool to convert reports to.pdf format and insert this document into a Board Meeting report. Then expand File Systems, and click File Shares. In the right pane of iSeries.
I put a spool file, right click, convert to pdf, asks me whether I want a new printer, I say yes, starts a printer then a writer but then everything stops. Printer is stopped. I tried also to make a PSF file and a device with IPDS, also the same. Everything goes well until I link PSF (for PDF conversion) with IPDS file. Then I cant start the printer. I tried some free PDF conversion tools like but I can't copy MBRs to my Library file.
I get an error (not a qdls member). Does anyone know a normal solution? If there is some nice sole that knows how to do it pls send me the full working answer. I'm not a pro. So pls post yr answers detailed. Thank you very much. We've also had issues with SPLF2PDF.
Sometimes it will work fine though but as you said, issues with the Library. We've used RPM for the PDF. They came out with a new version that does native PDF.
Some of our clients use it and speak highly of it. Check it out at Best of luck to you! 'Catapult' is a real nice tool to convert to pdf and electronically distribute the pdf to other users. Check it out. Please enter an answer.
Send me notifications when members answer or reply to this question. We use, and have for a long time, CutePDF - It installs as a printer driver and the end user can simply select it as the active printer from their printer session. You have to install Ghostscript as well but it is also a freebie.
You can also use it to print from Client Access. You can also use Win2PDF but unless you're a registered user it prints an extra sheet at the end of your document that has their self promo in the footer.
It really doesn't get any easier than CutePDF though.
Hi John, A couple of questions for you. Why do you have to copy the files from the print queues? Are the files that you are printing the same files that you copy to your windows machine from the print queues? There are solutions out there that allow you to email reports and create PDF files.
The problem with the 400 is that there is no native solution for the system to email reports or for the 400 to convert print files to PDF. I'm not 100% sure but the new version(s) of the operating system might have some of these solutions with them but when I was working with version 5 they didn't have them back them. What version are you running? So each morning I open up System i Navigator, and copy over these print queues: Server IP / Output Queues / pibm / (copy all of the files to my windows file server) Server IP / Output Queues / px / (copy all of the files to my windows file server) Server IP / Output Queues / py / (copy all of the files to my windows file server) Then I access my AS400 interface and hit escape, press option 1 to access my Print Spool Find 8 reports out of 50 or so reports and then change those reports to print to a real printer Then I hand out out the reports to various people and departments. It's 2015, there has to be a way to automate this or PDF & e-mail the reports out. Hi John, A couple of questions for you.

What version are you running? Hi MR3055, 1. I copy over the files from the print queue for two reasons- incase their is an issue with the printer and the job fails, I can then open up the print queue file and print it as a txt file.
I also keep daily folders of the print queues incase 3 weeks from now someone needs a copy of the report I can quickly access it. Yes the files are the same that I'm printing and copying over to my file server. This is my first time managing an AS400 system, How would I see what version this is? Thanks for your help!:). John, Whether a spool file goes on.SAV or not depends on the way the printer file is defined.

The default for the SAVE parameter is.NO. You need to change all printer files for reports you want to go to.SAV or you can do an OVRPRTF to set this at run time. Executing the command CHGPRTF FILE(.ALL/.ALL) SAVE(.YES) will change every printer file on the system to do this.

This includes all IBM and user defined printer files. Just remember if you go this route and you load a new OS version you will probabaly need to do this again as the IBM printer files might be overlayed. This also probably requires you to periodically clean out old spool files. Or you could put a 2 next to all the spool files and on the command line type save(.yes) and press enter to save all the spool files.
I think you can also change an outq to save all spool files be default as well. SyncBack is an awesome program, I've used it in the past for a wide variety of applications such as backing up websites, pushing files from my windows file server to different websites, backing up archived PST files from local user computers to a network share, sync'ing data between branch offices and HQ, tons of uses for it. There is a free version with limited functionality that will work well for most cases. The paid version isn't crazy expensive and the support is fast if you have any issues. So on my AS/400 I connect into it via IP and access the folder share that has the PDF exports: 111.222.333.444 pfw QS36F pdf W1 DATABASE Then I use SyncBack to mirror the data over to my windows file server.

Although the job scheduler is failing on this part, but if I run the manually it works. Looks like a permission issue that I need to work out. I can also connect into the AS/400 via FTP, so I think I'll change my SyncBack job to use FTP and see if that corrects the permission issue.
