Qbittorrent Stalled Not Downloading
QBittorrent version and Operating System: This is a wide issue, affects various versions and OS, however I can confirm v3.3.11 (and a few previous versions) on Windows 7. If on linux, libtorrent and Qt version: N/A What is the problem: Torrents randomly refuse to download, status shows 'stalled', it may(or may not) show available peers and seeds, but connected to zero(0) of them. What is the expected behavior: The torrents download normally. Steps to reproduce:. Set 'maximum number of half open connections' to 0 (It says unlimited). (I explain this in 'extra info').

Current alpha version: qBittorrent v4.2.0alpha12019082469f665ed016 The 64-bit version is only compatible with Windows 7 and later versions. A 32-bit version will not be available for the alpha releases. Download link: 64-bit installer / PGP signature (FossHub).
Find some torrents, and try to download them. Sometimes it will stall, this is random, but the chance is pretty high.
- Sep 07, 2015 hi guys this video is a basic video of how to install qbittorrent and the settings i recommend, qbittorrent is an alternative program to utorrent, here is.
- You probably should ask more detailed question are you facing a problem with the torrent program or are you just unable to open the torrent file using the program I recommend that you uninstall your torrent program and download the latest versio.
Extra info(if any): I stuck for months trying to solve the problem, the problem is very wide because this even affect some non-qBittorrent clients(such as Transmission), but I can exclude causes such as OS, network, seeding resources, because the exact same torrents works fine on uTorrent. Then I just found if I set 'maximum number of half open connections' to non-zero values (I set it to highest, 99999), the problem seems to be solved, all torrents will start downloading immediately, and it continues working as I tested these days, including adding different torrents, reboot, reinstall with clean user setting files. It's broken behavior to ALLOW a higher half open connection than global maximum connections. Sort of like saying: 'Count to 5 by 10's, stop at 20!' Half open limits set higher than the global max connection limit have to be ignored.
QBitTorrent won't allow over 2000 and Deluge over 9000 global connections, so this puts an upper limit on half open connections at once. On the opposite end of the problem, setting 'maximum number of half open connections' to 0 (or -1) could be changed to mean quit making outgoing connections. Admittedly this would cause a stall, but sometimes that's beneficial for a passive seed. Thanks, if 'setting 'maximum number of half open connections' to 0 (or -1) could be changed to mean quit making outgoing connections', then the description in the setting GUI is wrong(which claims unlimited at 0). However, with that value set to 0, torrent do not always stall, just randomly, so it's still a bug even without the wrong text. Also, if the global connection is maxed out at 2000, then it shouldn't show higher or unlimited in GUI.

They should either remove the hard coded limit, or show the real limit, of course the former is preferred. The hard-coded global max connections limit in qBitTorrent needs to be increased for the fiber internet connections that can upload faster than 100 MegaBYTES/second AND is sharing lots of busy torrents at once.
Even they have little or no use for 50 half-open connections, since after 20 minutes about all qBT will be doing with half-open connections is retrying dead and firewalled ips over-and-over again. Almost nobody else should be using over 1000 connections and 20 half-open connections. Only 'hopelessly' firewalled 1+ MegaBYTES/second UPLOAD connections even need 20 half-open connections at once, since they can't get any incoming connections. Everyone else is likely to get flooded out by incoming connections even if they're only making 1 half-open connection at a time. Telling qBitTorrent to use unlimited half-open connections and/or unlimited global max connections is just telling it to keep making more at once (if torrents offer enough ips to try) until your networking crashes/freezes. If you have enough busy torrents, qBitTorrent will stay close or at max global and half open connections limits. If there wasn't a hard coded limit, qBT would probably overload and crash under such conditions.
Even without crashes occurring, ISPs may treat 1000's of connections as a Denial-of-Service attack. Many private trackers hand out 50 ips to each connecting peer or seed on each tracker update, which is really stupid if there's only 1 peer.but that means qBT will be trying all 50 of those ips (which will be seeds) repeatedly. So having 50+ started-but-not-uploading seeding torrents at a private tracker can still cause mad levels of connection attempts. Thank you, but my key point is, if the limit is hardcoded like you said, then it cannot be overridden by any method on the user side, this is always a bad thing.
Yes too many connection may have negative impacts, that's why default setting is a bit lower. If a user decide to raise the limit, why block them? You can always put sensitive settings in the advanced tab, put a big warning near that, or even make it accessible only through modify INI file.

But a hard coded global connection limit with only 2000, that's a bit low to me. Could you tell me where can I find this limit? Many private trackers hand out 50 ips to each connecting peer or seed on each tracker update, which is really stupid if there's only 1 peer. What are the other 49 IPs?
All 0.0.0.0 or random fake ones? I cannot tell you where in the code the 2000 limit is, but it's probably in multiple places and removing it in only 1 location could cause more bugs. Many settings MUST scale with the connection max - trying to cram 1000 connections' traffic through 10 KB/sec max upload speed pretty much can't work. Either qBT uses way more than 10 KB/sec upload as a result or it drops a huge amount of packet traffic until other peers/seeds ban it. What are the other 49 IPs? All 0.0.0.0 or random fake ones? These trackers hand out a 'random' list of 50 ips (plus port) on each update.
It's even possible some badly configured trackers will hand back to you your OWN ip:port in the list of 50 random ips.as though you'd want to connect to it. (qBT will try it and get an error btw.) Many don't validate the ip addresses - so you'll see 10.x.x.x and 0.0.0.0 and 127.0.0.1 sometimes.
When there's 100+ seeds and 1 peer on the torrent, there's no guarantee you can even GET the 1 peer on 1-2 tracker updates over an hour, by which time the peer is now a seed as well. You'll likely get 50 seed ip:port values only. Uploading to the 1 peer is effectively impossible for firewalled seeds and unlikely for not-firewalled seeds. There is no settings combination that can get around not having the ip:port destination info to connect to a lone peer.

But first here are some questions to get a full background on your situation:. are you using a wired ethernet connection to get to the Internet or are you using wireless?. are you using the NetworkManager applet that sits in the System Tray at bottom right to run your networkk connection, or is it done in Yast, or do you not know?.
what sort of device connects to the internet, broadband wireless, broadband DSL or broadband cable (or some other)?. is there a network of several computers involved at your place or just the openSUSE computer alone?. is there a router in the mix somewhere, or just the broadband modem. have you configured the Suse Firewall (in Yast) to allow torrent communications yet, or not?. have you used your web browser to access your router (if any) and direct it to forward torrent signals to your computer (or not) yet?
