Member reviews. By on Fri Jul 23, 2010 5:35 pm A great sequel to an amazing campaign My apologies to the campaign's author for taking so long to write a review, but I wanted to play through the entire campaign before saying anything. I was a big fan of the first Sudden Strike; I'm a huge alternate history fan, as well as a Zero jock, so it was right up my alley. It was the first campaign in a long time that actually felt like there were palpable battle lines.battle lines you helped move, slowly and methodically. It was very satisfying. Now the battle has shifted away from Hawaii, and into the eastern Pacific.
Subsequently, the style of mission frequently encountered has changed from bombing/close air support to escort/interception. Normally I'm not a fan of carrier campaigns (with the exception of the Big E campaign), they tend to feel too stagnant.

I was pleased to find that the missions here don't really get boring. It's true that the kinds of missions you're on are repetitive due to the very nature of carrier vs carrier warfare, but something about the missions always kept me playing. I'd say it's probably the immersion.
Briefings are informative and entertaining without dragging on. About half way through the campaign, a very unique situation starts to come into play that I've never seen in any other carrier campaign. The first time I saw it, my jaw literally dropped. I won't spoil it for future players, but they'll know it when they see it. Just incredible.
A few things irked me about the campaign, though. First, 'Akagi' is always misspelled as 'Agaki', for some reason. There were a few grammar issues per briefing, but they didn't detract from the over all experience. I understand that the nature of carrier warfare limits the kinds of missions you could create, but in the future, a little more variety would be appreciated. There's only so many times in a row you can escort a strike force, or defend the fleet against an enemy strike force, before it gets a little monotonous. That said, I really enjoyed the campaign. Now I have to wait for Sudden Strike 3, and that's gonna feel like a loooong wait Excellent work on the campaign, with special note on the briefings.

Good stuff all around. Definitely worth a play if you're on the fence about it.
